Has anyone here ever had their doctor pull them off their meds and have them go cold turkey before trying another med?
I have been on Klonopine since 1992 10mgs 5 times a day. I had a major dystonic storm and was taken off of Klonopin instantly for four days in order to start Tegretol.
By the third day, I had no idea who I was, who my family was or where I was. I was rushed back up to my doctor and immediately admitted to the psych ward at my hospital.
I spent three weeks going through incredible detox.
I am now back on Klonopin and also Cymbalta and Flexiril.
If anyone else has gone through this nightmare, please let me know.
What a trauma!!! I have ER and am on .05 Clonazapam 3X a day for a few years. I hope that does not happen to me. I do have a friend here on this forum that had a terrible time with the Clnozapam withdrawal too.
Yes!
I tapered off Cymbalta 20 mg once a day ..
tapered off it by taking the capsule apart
and counting the tiny beads, decreasing them over a 3 month period..
I had a horrific withdrawal!
I had paranoia, crying jags, anxiety, panic attacks, deep depression...for months...
I know it was the withdrawal....no doubt about it.
When I came off paxil, the withdrawal was so bad ..
sweating and dripping water off me, panic attacks, electric shock like feelings,
depression and anxiety that the neuro put me on cymbalta...
so off one and on another that getting off them was the same.
however I do say to save a persons life , they work...
they are good in many ways...
and you know hopefully you will not need them forever...
We all have to think that there is a light at the end of the tunnel for us...
no matter how dark it gets...you must do what you can to make life better
for you and your family at the moment it is crumbling down on you...
My entire family has adverse reactions to medication..even cholestrol medications and can not take those
so my sensitivity to all meds is serious..I am not able to take any pain medication at all...
I am not able to take over the counter drugs either...
Hi Donna I went through the same thing a few months ago.I had been taking the same medicine three times a day for tremors.I had been taking for five years. My Doc at the time decided I didnt need any more.I have had a hard time, thought I would have a heart attack or jerk to death.I had to change Docs.

hope you are both feeling much better by now. Today was my last procedure to qualify for a procedure to supress the essential tremors; I am having a Gamma Knife Radiation Surgery May 7th~
Angie, how are you doing? I truly hope the surgery worked miracles for you. Post when you can, am anxious to hear from you.

OMG, how are you still alive???? I was taken off Klonopin cold-turkey by a psychiatrist in a hospital setting...I thought I was dying! Had to be put back on immediately. Took for couple more years then gradually tried to wean myself [docs don't seem to know what they're doing]. Every time I d/c'd I went berserk. I cannot describe the torment this withdrawal caused. Finally with d/cing VERY slowly I was able to stop & haven't had any in 6 months. Only thing is THAT was about the only drug that has helped my symptoms & now I can't get a doc to prescribe it again. Benzo addiction is the worst thing I've encountered since Valium [Valium withdrawal didn't compare at all to Benzo withdrawal]. I would like to start back on Klonopin but am afraid of it...I never want to experience that torment again. I guess I could stay on it for the rest of my life & not try to stop but....
Anyway, that's my tale.
Glad you're feeling better.

my procedure was postponed until June 4th, 2009. Fine by me as i have waited years! <: Thanks for your Best Wishes and I'll check in once i have an update for you~
I am new to this, i have a problem with my back and take several medications a day. I am scared of the withdrawal too. But i know that there is a medicine that you can take for 5 days, you put it under your tongue and boom, no withdrawl and no suffering. The name of the medicine is suboxin (sa box in) not sure on the spelling.,
You should ask your doctor, please have died going through detox alone. It is a serious problem and doctors dont seem to care.
Feel good.
