WEGO Health

I read a discussion by CSheldon regarding the side effects from Myobloc and so this person has run into insurance issues because they chose not to have the myobloc because of the side effects and that its's only approved for CD so they won't pay for having it for blephrospasm. I'm speaking totally from my own experience. I have CD and I've been on Myobloc probably for about the past 10 years, it's been so long I don't rememer when I went on it exactly. I also had the side effectsf big time as a matter of fact. Every single one of them. I had acid reflux, dry mouth and throat, and whatever else gets dry. I had muscle aches, and I just had every single one of the side effects there was, but I had no other options. I already had a cervical denervation, I was immune to Botox and decided I'd give it a shot (no pun intended) and see if I could up with the side effects. And guess what, eventually they did settle down. I did have go on an anti-reflux medication though, and I used Bioteine gum for the dry mouth. I learned to drink first before I ate to make sure my throat was not dry and food didn't stick. You do learn some tricks as time goes on to make things better. I actually am doing great now and I'm up to 22, 000 units of Myobloc. My suggestion is you try and stick it out and you'll see that things will get better. If you can't use Botox any longer you have to learn to put up with some of the side effects and you are giving up the opportunity to have your Cervical Dystonia treated. The toxins really are the best thing we have for CD. I have had CD and writers cramp for over 20 years now,and I find that I just have to do anythng and everything I can to make sure I have some quality to my life. If it weren't for the toxins, I would never be as active as I am and so I take the good with the bad. I hope you'll give it another chance and try and put up with the side effects until they settle down and get better, because I know in my case, they did get better. I still get somewhat dry, but Biotene is wonderful and you can get it at the drugstore. If you get reflux, talk to your doctor about putting you on one of the anti reflux medications. I was on Protonix, but I have other issues and am now on a different one, but Protonix worked for me to just recently so that's a pretty good length of time to work. Just wanted to put my two cents worth in as a person with CD, being on mybloc, side effects and all and also being a patiient advocate for 20 years now! Good luck I hope you reconsider and give it another try. Nancy
