Community Leader Ellen commented once, "Breast cancer gets the press, because prostate cancer is still considered a "personal" disease. It's discussed behind closed doors and in whispered tones." Do you agree?
I wonder if this is slowly beginning to change. Right now the news media is buzzing with stories about prostate cancer. This is, in part, because well-known figures Andrew Lloyd Webber and Dennis Hopper have both announced recent diagnoses. But I have a few questions for you:
Do you think prostate cancer is receiving enough attention in your online communities?
As one of the most common, and growing, types of cancer—what would you like more people to know?
Do you think people are uncomfortable speaking about prostate cancer? If so - why? How can we change this?
In relation to other types of cancer, how do you think prostate cancer is being portrayed publicly? How can men, in particular, be more involved in health discussions especially those around prostate cancer?
What sort of conversations are you seeing in your other communities?
What resources (health activists, sites, blogs, forums, or tweeting) do you turn to for prostate cancer information?
