How would you like our submissions? Where should we post them, if a piece of artwork, as a jpeg file?
Thanks for the information and for the challenge. This is a great place for us to get comfortable with exposing this side of ourselves!
Hi Amy, that's a great question! This is the first time I've tried a contest like this, so I'm still working out the kinks, lol. I have added instructions to the post, so hopefully that will answer most questions. What do you think?
Great instructions, Ellen! I am one of those people who turns their blinker on in an empty parking lot, you know, always like to know I am doing things the "right way". LOL! Thanks for your help!
Kimberly at Living Whole with Chronic Pain has written me that the group has featured our contests on their site - THANK YOU! They are just the best! If you get a chance to stop by, tell them "hi" from me too, okay?!
this precious, precious thing

this precious, precious thing
how light it is
how heavy it can be

this precious, precious thing
how dark it is
how hard it can be

this precious, precious thing
how forgiving it is
how horrible it can be

this precious, precious thing
how joyful it is
how dreadful it can be

this precious, precious thing
how beautiful it is
how ugly it can be

this precious, precious thing
you wounder what it might be
for it is life

life of our world
the animals
the plants
the people

cannot have beauty without tragedy
cannot have success without failure

this precious, precious thing

where did i go

where have i gone
i look around
trying to see

where have i gone
for all i see
is a mother and a wife

where have i gone
i cannot see

i know i have lost something vital
like an organ that is important
oh, my heart, my soul, my name

how do i find it again
this important piece of myself
that has long been gone these past few years

looking hard
looking deep
i think i see a glimmer
or a shadow
of what i seek

hope is on the horizon
no matter how the journey
is long and steep

hope is in the stars
guiding me at night

hope is in the clouds
shading me in the harshest of heat

hope is in the soil
grounding me when all feels lost

hope is in the air
pulling me forward
pulling me back

saying remember
never forget
for this is but a lesson
on the long walk of life

what we live through
only makes us stronger
so when the next turn drops from the sky
we can survive

for this is but a small fraction of time

where have i gone
i think i know
for i am behind
in front
on the side

seeking answers
seeking prayers
seeking knowledge
seeking life

i am not lost
just set aside for know
looking in
finding answers
from my true self

where are my dreams

where are my dreams when i need them most
and not just the dreams we see in our heads
in the dark of night

my dreams have become shattered, broken
my life seeming to be torn apart
a few years ago life set a blow
that began to tear at the fabric of my soul

like a bird
caught in a cage
beneath a shroud
forced to be quiet
forced to be subdued

i see the hole in front of me
been their before
quite a few times

they say knowledge brings power
perhaps this knowledge will be my weapon
to never let go

scared of the black pit
know i do not want it
see the slippery tether
keeping me sane

grabbing hold
with shaking hands
and when my hands give out
i bite the tether with all my might

refuse to fall
for knowledge is power
and that power will give me strength

strength to care
strength to love
strength to live

though the tunnel is long and dark
knowledge is power
to know a light will show
to lead me out

grasping the tether
wrapping it around my wrist
never give up
life is to precious
a hard lesson learned long ago

SUFFERING

Suffering came over one day:

UNINVITED

I thought she would go home.
Company and fish,
Three days is long enough1

So finally I said,
"How long are you planning to stay?"
Suffering gave me a silly grin.

Lord, I pleaded one night ----lots of nights
"You gotta get her outa here.
She's a terrible, terrible pain!
How long do I have to put up with her?"

If God knew, he didn't say,
But, he promised to stick around
And help me put up with Suffering.
So he sent the Comforter -
Who, I believe, comforted Him
When He died on the cross for me.

Fibromyalgia, dystonia, arthritis, IBS,
All will be gone in heaven ,
where I will see my little sister again.
She went there in June
After four years of cancer and chemo!
Finally at rest.

She suffered more than I ever did,
but she knew where she was going;
As did her husband and three grown sons,
wives and little grand children.

We held hands, we prayed,
As she went to be
With Jesus and the angles!

See ya with Jesus, Jeannie!
Greetings to mom and dad
and brother Richard.
Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep.

Her patient suffering
taught us a lot!
So suffering is a teacher,
But God is greater.
"The Price of Freedom"

A ghostly image of a soldier
stood in the background,
as a mother with a babe in her
arms stood by a grave site.

She lowly whispered, "Father
this is your Son. Son this is your
Father. He gave his life so that
others might live."

what is the prize(s)?
A feature story about the winner will be written, and many kudos!! I don't know if I can find someone who would want to donate a prize, but we've got some time to come up with that possibly as well. :)
