I have been suffering with yes-yes head bobbing since I was very young. Doctor always said essential tremor. Now I have been going to so many doctors with what feels like abdominal muscles that clench involuntarily. I awaken several times at night with the muscles in what feels like my stomach clenched. I've taken xanax thinking it was anxiety but it does nothing to stop the clenching. I don't feel anxious at all but my muscles in wall of abdominal just contract . It's not painful but it certainly doesn't make breathing easier. LIke I said I awaken from deep sleep to these contractions. I also have RLS. Does this sound familiar to anyone please.
Hi Pattimay,
My abdominal muscles do spasm and contract but it doesn't happen during sleep, it happens during the day, and for me it does hurt. What does wake me up are terribly painful spasms in my toes, ankles & legs that twist my toes and feet into abnormal, weird positions...hurts a lot. My jaws clench involuntarily and my back and neck muscles spasm too. I have not been diagnosed with dystonia or RLS, so far only peripheral neuropathy in my ankles and there has not been an anwer given for why I have spasms in all these other places. I take Klonopin each night for all this. It has not stopped or slowed down the spasms, but it has helped with getting a deeper sleep.

Thank you for writing Connie. I do also get the stomach muscles contracting during the day. There is no cramping as in IBS. It just feels like a huge knot . I can feel when it starts to contract . It does affect my digestion by the end of the day though because my muscles are so tight there . First doctor did give me Klonopin which I have not taken yet. My legs get a weird feeling at night and I hold out so long until it becomes impossible and I have to kick them hard . It's a horrible feeling in my legs. Hence the RLS diagnosis. I have also been getting what feels like a muscle pain in the front of my throat. Don't know if this is from clenching my teeth. Also when I swallow food it goes down my throat okay but I get severe pain spasm in esophogus for a minute or two that turns my face red with pain before food goes all the way down. I read about dystonia but I have not heard at all that dystonia would cause this involuntary contractions of my abdominal wall. So I'm wondering if it's all anxiety.
