How Will You Participate in Fibromyalgia Awareness Day on May 12th?

Fibromyalgia Awareness Day is May 12, 2011 and I honestly haven't heard too much about it this year. I keep hoping that the awareness campaigns and awareness in general will become more obvious but it seems that Fibromyalgia is hanging on to it's mystery for now. With that in mind, I hope we can share with others great ways to participate in Fibromyaglia Awareness Day. One way that I will be participating is by blogging for the Bloggers Unite Event.

Let us know here what you and your community will be doing for Fibromyalgia Awareness Day 2011, so we can join you and give you support!

So glad you found out about it through this discussion. Link to your blog post here if you think of it!

I've been posting on face book about May 12, and have signed up for the Bloggers Unite effort. A friend has blogged about fibromyalgia awareness for a blog carnival focusing on awareness. http://ChronicBabe.com will provide you with a link to the awareness blog carnival that mentions fibromyalgia as one of the awareness campaigns.

I tried to add a twibbon to my facebook profile, but as often happens, my first attempt didn't make the twibbon stick. http://twibbon.com/Search?searchQuery=fibromyalgia takes you to the twibbon page with the fibromyalgia twibbons if you want to add one to your profile pick. There are quite a few to choose from.

I, too, am interested in what others are do for May 12th.

PS: http://www.thefightlikeagirlclub.com/2011/05/may-12-is-fibromyalgia... takes you to an article on the Fight Like a Girl Club website about fibromyalgia awareness. I had just posted above when I went back to my email, this message had arrived. Sycronisity or serendipity.

Both ChronicBabe.com and Fight Like a Girl Club are great resources for chronic illnesses including fibromyaliga.

Indeed, they are both great resources! Thanks for sharing all of this great info!

On the page with the Twitter link, you can choose "Facebook" instead.  I think it was tabs across the top of the ribbon box, if I remember right.

I am attending an open house for the "Frida Center for Fibromyalgia," which was just opened by Dr. Ginevra Liptan.  She is a physician who has fibro herself and so she truly gets it.  She has also written a great book called "Figuring Out Fibromyalgia."  I will also add the ribbon to my profile picture and check out the Bloggers Unite Event.
Very cool! What a wonderful way to participate and celebrate the opening of this new center. Where is it located?
Portland, Oregon.  http://www.fridacenter.com

This will be my second year of participating in the Bloggers Unite event. On 5/12 I'll be posting a special post about Fibromyalgia Awareness Day.

I'm also having a pain relieving gel giveaway to celebrate. It is one of my favorite products and I hope it provides others with pain relief as well. http://feliciafibro.com/2011/04/28/free-sombra-gel-giveaway/

On 5/11 I'll be tweeting to people who aren't diagnosed with fibromyalgia asking them to mention the day to their followers.

There are quite a few events on Facebook, but one that I love is the purple balloon release: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=180765838639126

Thank you so much for sharing with us how you will be participating and also for letting us know of additional events/resources. Great giveaway you have going on at your blog. Thank you for telling us about it here!

P.S. How do you recommend people find the events on facebook (in addition to the purple balloon release you mentioned_? Is there a "best" or easy way to search for them?

I don't know if there is a good way to search for events on Facebook. I tried a few search terms and most results came up with I just searched Facebook regularly for "fibromyalgia awareness day." I usually see them as people that I follow RSVP, create or event me to events.
http://hibernationnow.wordpress.com/2011/05/06/are-you-even-aware-d... is a link to another entry in the ChronicBabe.com Awareness Blog Carnival by a friend who deals with fibromyalgia among other health issues. This is a letter to doctors to make them more aware of fibro.
