I have Leaky Gut Syndrome. Does anyone out there have this issue. If so, I would love to hear from you. Other issues include Dystonia, Graves' Disease, and food intolerances (which is probably related/causative of the Leaky Gut Syndrome and/ or Autoimmune issues).

Hi Connie! Yes, I meant Celiac Disease. I was diagnosed in 2004 and have had to make a lot of changes - curious about whether or not others have been able to be 100% GF or not, and what has helped them. Also, due to the CD I have seriously low vitamin D and have to take high-dose liquid supplements. And of course, there is NO SUN here in New England much of the year!

I wish you well with your condition. I hope you are seeing improvement.

Hi there, I do have celiac problems, but it's not the typical celiac disease that I assume you are referring to...my celiac artery was severely compressed so that its blood supply was totally cut off every time I inhaled. That meant that my stomach, liver, spleen and upper small intestine were not getting any blood each time I breathed in. I lost 1/3 of my body weight in a year. Stents did not work so they finally put a graft in this past Nov.

I read an interesting bit of science about irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Turns out that folks with IBS have higher numbers of TRPV1 proteins--chilli pepper pain receptors. These are proteins that cause you to experience a burning sensation when you eat chilli and may explain why people with IBS can experience a worsening of symptoms after eating spicy foods.

This discovery means that new drugs that target these receptors might help to treat IBS. This research from a group in the UK is described here.

Hello everyone! Welcome to our new GI group. I would love to hear more of your stories. I would also like to start some educational discussions regarding different diseases. Feel free to start posting and sharing. Know that you are not alone in battling GI disease.
Peace,
Jen
