Plenty of people are confused about whether it's really healthy to go on the Subway Diet. Can a person really lose weight by eating fast food day in and day out?

Diet reviewers don't recommend it:

"Any diet that restricts caloric intake is going to lead to weight loss, no matter the food choices made. The problem with the "Subway Diet" approach is that it is far too narrow in its focus and not sustainable in the long-term. It does not teach balanced nutrition that can be adapted to a normal diet once the weight loss goal is reached. The bottom line with the Subway Diet is that it is purely a marketing campaign meant to instill the idea in the consumer that Subway sandwiches are a healthier choice than other fast food option."

What do you think? Is this "diet" really effective or is the public just being lead down a primrose path?

I guess I’m going to have to step in on this one and give my 2 cents worth. Brenda, you couldn’t be closer to the truth, it is exactly that ‘A Marketing Campaign’ meant to lead people to believe that they are eating healthy. Although it certainly is a better choice than most fast foods, it is still a long shot from being well balanced.
I have written to many times about restrictive calorie dieting and the effects it has on your endocrine system. Just like many of the other diets out there ‘Weight Watchers included’ these are not sustainable processes that can be developed into a lifestyle. That’s the beauty of it, they’re guineas, rich Business Marketers, they know 90% of their clients will fail, but come back time after time to try it again. What is the lesson here? Its absurd to think that you can continue to eat the very foods that got you heavy in the first place and lose weight on it if only eaten in smaller amounts.
Lets face the facts, you will not eat those foods in smaller amounts for very long, slowly but surely you will be right back to your old habits because, this is what you know! and we are creatures of habit.
When an alcoholic decides to quit drinking and goes for help do they tell him he should just cut back. Why would anyone think it would be any different for someone overweight or obese. I guess what I am trying to get across is if you want true long term weight loss and good health you absolutely must establish NEW HABITS. Regardless of what you think or want ‘you can‘t have your cake and eat it to‘.
If I was paying for something that didn’t work; I’d be shopping for something new.

Yes, the Subway Diet is, at the core, good marketing, but look at the alternatives for busy working people with 30 minutes for lunch. Subway, unlike most other fast food, is not fried or sugar-laden. So, while I agreed it's not a good long-term solution and doesn't really teach balanced nutrition - - it's a healthier choice within the fast food nation. Order me the veggie pocket please.
