What do different types of Flu’s, West Nile Virus, and SARS all have in common?
Our bodies can shield us from them easier than you think!!!
Dr. John Cannell of the Vitamin D Council has written many articles emphasizing the importance of Vitamin D in the body for many applications. One of the most recent and intriguing articles he has writing boasts the importance of Vitamin D to prevent viruses, including Flu viruses.
Vitamin D is a potent antiviral and antibiotic that boosts the body’s production of antimicrobial peptides. These antimicrobial peptides, when taken with arginine and lysine (1.1 lbs of lysine/150 lbs of body weight), quickly destroys the cell walls of bacteria, viruses (including influenza), and fungi; they also help keep the lungs free from infection.
It destroys flu-causing viruses and simultaneously prevents the immune system from producing a dangerous amount of inflammatory chemicals (Cytokines) that attack respiratory membranes. Cytokines are an important part of the immune system. But in severe cases of the flu (ex: Swine Flu and Bird Flu), their production spirals out of control, causing high fever and exhaustion. This “Cytokine storm” can actually cause death if not addressed.
Dr. Al Sears of Power for Healthy Living explains that Vitamin D also increases the number of diseases fighting blood cells and increases the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood, which stimulates the body’s immune system. Vitamin D also moderates and down regulates the body’s immune response (over-activity is responsible for auto immune disease).
Adding ascorbate, lysine, and EGCG catechins to a rich Vitamin D3 intake will prove worthwhile this season, and many seasons to come, to help you stay free of the flu, without taking a harmful vaccination.
