I have Bipolar Disorder and certainly each day is a challenge, not many people in society are educated on what people with mental illness go through. Even doctors really feel that taking a 'pill' is the total solution for treatment, which in my opinion really isn't the case, yes it helps but there's more areas of treatment available, for those who suffer from this horrific disease..

Whislt adding some content I was reminded of this video clip, I first saw the clip as part of my Mental Health First Aid Instructor Training.

Advocating Recovery as an outcome is a personal passion of mine. Pat eloquently and with a great sense of humour, tells us about her Recovery Journey.

Thank you Sheri for such awesome advice! In the morning before I am fully awake and able to turn over and encourage my body to move -- I find myself doing stretches and breathing deep. It takes some of  the stress for that moment away.

I sit on the side of my bed, ,, I evaluate how my body is feeling. I decide whether or not my body can carry me to the bathroom. My knees do not have much confidence in their ability to do anything in the early morning.

My body does not function until I can eat breakfast and take my daily medications. I have never been a breakfast person! There are mornings I get sick due to the food that I have had to eat. I know that it is healthy for me to eat breakfast. When I do that I am less hungary later. I attempt to eat 3 meals a day; although, I do have a 17 yr old that loves his SWEETS. there are times when I get weak and have to join him in his cravings.

When I get up in the am, , , I find myself talking to my body. Left foot, right foot, ,, then my hips. I have to slowly step into the movement of walking. I have trouble with incontinence in the early morning hours. That is a bummer, ,,and I get so angry at myself for the accidents that I have.

Well so much for me -- what about you?

Have a blessed day!

Actually, I owner train my own dogs.  I started training animals way back in grade school as part of something in 4-H and I work better with animals than many people.  It's easy for me to get most dogs to do what I want, I just have to figure out the dog.

If I had more good days with the pain, I'd consider going into animal training.  There aren't nearly enough people who train animals for psych purposes and service animals can really help with mental illnesses as long as the person is able to care for them which most of us can.  Actually, many of us care for our animals better than ourselves is what I've repeatedly seen...no matter what the status of the animal is.

Deborah, I understand exactly what you're going through. If it weren't for my fortunate lack of chronic pain you would be describing me a few months ago. Take microsteps, don't look at the big picture, just one little thing at a time. I used to do this by saying to myself in the morning "left foot on the floor, right foot on the floor, stand up, etc." I'm assuming you have a therapist and take meds, can you have your meds reevaluated?

Roseviolet, that's awesome that you are training service dogs. I admire you for that. Our pets are truly a big part of our support group, aren't they? There were days when the only reason I got out of bed was because I needed to feed my kitties. Like I said to Deborah, take microsteps, you'll get through it.

Keep going ladies, you can do this. {{{hugs}}}
