WEGO Health

According to this USA Today article The Swine Flu is spreading rapidly through schools. A few schools by us have already closed due to record illness. Strep seems to be going through our school, although this could be a secondary illness caused by H1N1. It's inevitable. Kids are going to get sick!

So what do you do when your kids come down with the flu or another illness that knocks them off their feet for a while? How do you make them comfortable while trying to play nurse maid?

Here a few things that usually help at our house:

1. The sick child gets to bunk in the spare room where there is a TV (no children have TV's in their bedrooms).
2. The sick child gets Gatorade to drink (children don't normally drink Gatorade at our house so this is a treat).
3. Ice packs or cold compresses for fevers.
4. Children's Motrin is also a help in bringing down the fever.
5. Lots of books for reading.
6. Depending on how long the illness lasts, mom or dad will make a trip to the movie store to pick up a few selections from the family dollar section.
7. Warm comfy jammies.
8. Lots of water and Popsicle for hydration.
9. Extra hugs and kisses.

I found a few Mommy suggestions over at Bailey's Leaf.

Adventures in Swine Flu - or Hini - Tracy Solomon actually makes Swine Flu funny. I highly recommend this post. If you have the swine flu, it will at least put a smile on your face.
