I admit it - I've wanted a new mattress for years. It wasn't a priority until recently however. A recent purchase of a new memory foam mattress from BedInABox got me thinking about all the different kinds and brands of mattresses I've tried throughout the years in effort to get control of my back pain and reclaim a few hours of sleep each night.

My favorites:

Spring mattress: Beautyrest. Those pocketed coils make an enormous difference in comfort and how I'm able to sleep. Additionally, there is much less movement when my hubby does a mid-air flip turn in the middle of the night. This quality mattress is somewhat spendy, however it lasts a long time as far as spring mattresses go. If you like spring mattresses, this is the one I would recommend trying.

Waterbed: Yes, we had a waterbed for years back in the 80's. At first I enjoyed the feeling of being cradled in warmth, and even the rocking motion was peaceful. Soon my back became quite bad. Did the water mattress play a part? I don't know, but when we switched back to a spring mattress, my back did feel better.

Air bed: I didn't get to spend a lot of time on one of these, but enough that, after a long stint on a spring mattress, I really wanted one. The idea of changing the firmness depending on how you felt that night was really tugging at me. I'm a skinny person, and I usually have bruises where my bones hit the mattress while I'm sleeping. Soft enough to pad the sores, while firmness enough to support my back is really vital. We were out-priced however, so we never bought one for ourselves. My brother however, wouldn't be without his.

Memory foam: I've spent weeks on TempurPedic mattresses. Even my parent's old one took much of my joint pain away. I also have Raynaud's - a circulation disorder - so the added benefit of increased heat during sleep was a plus for me. Unfortunately, my husband did NOT agree. He loves his ancient spring mattress and will absolutely not sleep on a memory foam one at home.

Adjustable bed: This is the bed I've been saving for for years. Our initial Craftmatic quote was $10,000 however. I hear they are fabulous beds, but are you kidding? Because of my severe headaches, allergies, reflux disease (LPR) and hiatal hernia the idea of a bed I could adjust up and down like when I'm in the hospital was really great to me. Add to that a massage unit like my favorite chair has, and a heating pad to scare away the cold and soothe painful joints... I was sold on the idea, if not a particular brand. Top it by a memory foam mattress and I would have been in absolute heaven. Anyway, this has been my dream for a very long time.

My BedInABox arrived yesterday. It is an updated memory foam made by BASF that stays flexible in a wider range of temperatures, doesn't leach chemicals, and doesn't collect heat like other memory foams I've read. Just as good was the price - only a fraction of the cost of the ones I had been looking for at local furniture stores. I chose to top it with a goose down pad for additional padding for my sore bones, and to prevent heat build-up for my dear hubs. My BedInABox remains so far - in the box. When we get it set up and I get a couple weeks to try it out, I'll be back to write a review.

What kind/brand of mattress do you sleep on? Are you happy with it? What kind of bed would you have if money were no option? What are members of your sleep communities choosing to sleep one? Which mattresses do they wish they could sleep on? Do you have a product you'd like to review here that might help sleep community members?
