WEGO Health

Lately, many of our most elite athletes are announcing they have Graves' Disease. Research is out there that discusses the connection between strenuous exercise (ie physical stress) and the development of Graves' Disease.

Health Activist Lisa recently blogged about the question - does exercising boost or reduce your immunity? This inspired me to start several discussions, as I see too often that patients are in the mindset that a boost is good, that more is better. See other related discussions in the Autoimmunity Disease community.

As Health Activists, have you seen this topic come up in your communities? Do you have members who developed Graves' or other autoimmune disease after becoming serious athletes? Do you think this is an important topic to bring up in your groups, or do you think most members are aware of the connection?

I hope you will consider sharing the answers to these questions so all Thyroid leaders can take the information back to their groups and raise awareness. We are all linked here because of our thyroid concerns...
