There are many misconceptions about school age children who have about type 1 diabetes and in turn others use these misconceptions as excuses to bully. The following are a few of the misconceptions: (There is NEVER a reason to bully anyone!)
1. Type 1 diabetes is caused by weight issues, lack of exercise, or bad eating habits.
2. Type 1 diabetics are drug addicts.
3. You can catch type 1 diabetes.
4. The child themselves caused this disease.
Diabetes.org.uk released this video titled “Setting the record straight” and it shows a girl who has type 1 diabetes being pick on and taunted by her class mates.
