Genetic mutation and Alzheimer's Disease

I just saw a summary of a new study, described in the June 27th edition of the on-line journal/resource Cell (www. Cell.com). The study indicates that a mutation in the CALHM1 gene may cause problems with a brain calcium channel and lead to the build up of a protein that is a key part of the plaques that affect the brains of people with Alzheimer’s disease.

In the study, nine otherwise healthy young adul… Continue

A new long term study, though, indicates that the seeds of chronic insomnia in adulthood might be sown in the teen years. The study, conducted by Dr. Jules Angst, of Zurich University Psychiatric Hospital in Switzerland, looked at sleep habits… Continue

Bedroom TVs and sleep problems

I was looking through some of the really good resources collected in the Toddler Sleep Page on WEGO Health (thanks, Felisha!) and many of the articles I came across suggested removing the TV from your young child’s bedroom to help curb sleep problems.

Wait…

TVs in toddler bedrooms?? What are parents thinking?!?

Apparently, more than a third of parents of preschoolers – kids who are three and four, mind you - think that it is all right for their kids to have TVs in their rooms. Not only do the… Continue
