A migraine blog carnival

Bobble Head over at Atomic City is hosting the May Migraine Carnival. This month the topic was migraine and exercise. There are some wonderful contributions and great information that have been included. Ellen Schnakenberg, James Cottrill, Diana Lee, Kerrie Smyres, Pat E, Teri Robert, Rena Sherwood, Megan Oltman, MaxJerz, Rosalind Joffe, and Rain Gem have all weighed in on the subject. What sound makes you want to run and hide?

I saw this question posted over at The Daily Headache by Kerrie: For you migrainuers, what sound makes your ears cringe and your head scream? I actually have a few that come to mind right away. 1. My kids screaming - Drives me nuts when I don't have a migraine, but puts me totally over the edge when I do. 2. The screech of our patio door - See explanation for number 1. They are basically the same. 3. Ha… Continue

Looking for migraine relief or seeking narcotics?

I was reading a post on the Migraine message board at HealthCentral. It was posted by "Arnsmom" who went to the ER seeking help/relief for her migraines and the ER doctor became frustrated and suspicious with her and labeled her as a "drug seeker" in the hospital system and asked her to leave without helping her. I only went to the ER once for a migraine (my first one) but if I thought it was severe enough or if I thought… Continue

Botox doesn't help migraines?

Botox is not a treatment method that I've tried for my migraines so I can't say much about it from a personal experience. I can talk about Topamax, Maxalt, Tylenol, Excedrin, Imitrex(pill and injection), Hyrdrocodone and Vidcodin (the last two I turned out to be allergic to because I'm allergic to codeine), but Botox I haven't tried. But I know people that have tried Botox for migraines and they swear by it. Well, today I read this:
The new guidelines approve its [Botox]use for trea…

Could there be more going on than just migraines?

This article by Reuters Health suggests that people with migraines may suffer from other phsychiatric disorders such as depression, bi-poler, social phobia and more. When I first read the title I took offense to it. NO I DON'T and HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST THAT. But as I read further down, it does make a certain amount of sense.
The…

Janeen, Thank you, and you're welcome! I love my work. After coming so far with my own Migraines and headaches, it's a dream job to help others. Three of our grandchildren have Migraines too, so that makes patient education and advocacy even more important to me. :-)
