More about me (my health interests and reasons for joining WEGO Health)
I have multiple chronic "invisible illnesses" including Sjogren's Syndrome, Dysautonomia, Localized Scleroderma, Osteoarthritis, Fibromyalgia, and Raynaud's. Having been diagnosed (relatively) young at 15, I found it more productive and emotionally healthy to approach my life with a goal of expanding awareness and improving resources for people with invisible illnesses. I'm also a big believer in knowledge-sharing, and that we each have so many unique pieces of information it only makes sense to share them. So, I created "UII - Understanding Invisible Illnesses", which currently exists as a group on Facebook and the reason for my personal blog. In the future, I plan to bring UII to life an established not-for-profit resource, in alliance with many disease-specific organizations.

Stress Flares SUCK

Posted on November 20, 2010 at 8:52am 3 Comments

This has been a BAD week for me. I had just been telling my family I noticed I was feeling an unusually high amount of anger all week. Things have been VERY high-stess at work, peaking on Wednesday with my mini meltdown, and continuing at almost that level the rest of the week. Add to that I've been very frustrated with my husband for different reasons each day, and while our relationship is strong as ever and none of my frustrations with him were really that serious, I didn't need the added…

UII and SSF: Success!

Posted on July 21, 2010 at 12:00am 0 Comments

(I originally put this post on my blog on May 2, 2010, the day after the Philadelphia Area SSF Walkabout.)

I'd like to report that Team "UII" Can Spread Hope! made a great showing at the 6th Annual SSF Philadelphia Walkabout! Eight of the ten original walkers (we lost one to an inflexible work schedule and one to a foot injury) braved the near-100 degree heat index to support Sjogies everywhere:D Here's my favorite picture of our team:…

Dry Eye Solutions

Posted on July 20, 2010 at 11:58pm 3 Comments

My eyes have been getting worse (drier, more sensitive, blurrier, yada yada yada...I'm sure staring at a computer screen for 16 hours a day and doing multi-hour long drives in bright morning sun and middle-of-the night darkness have NOTHING to do with it, of course). So, I've been doing research. I appologize for the down and dirty style of this post but I should really force myself to sleep soon.

1. Fish Oil - So I started taking fish oil for the Omega 3's, which…

Jennypettit, most Migraine groups have forum areas that discuss other headache disorders. Trauma can cause different types of headach including Migraine. Migraine.com might be a good place tonstart as we have many physicians working with us. :)

Hi Jenny,
I am trying to find some more info on the autoimmune ovarian case. Do you know anything else about this? Was it a genetic diagnosis or is it a newly diagnosed condition for your friend? I'll keep looking. Good luck - Alicia

Hi Jenny,

I am so looking forward to hearing about how the panel went! I am sure it was great, but I want details. =)

Hoping you are feeling well these days, too. I wanted to take a moment and welcome you to the Women's Health group. I know you have so many wonderful things to add to the groups, I love seeing you participating!

Hi Jenny,
I wanted to let you know that I wrote up a post here called, "Discussing the Chicken and the Egg" about the discussion you started on Una Vita Bella. I thought our members here could benefit from the topic as well. I hope you will check it out and feel free to comment.
Happy Weekend,

Hi Jenny! I just wanted to say hello and that it was great to have you join us for the Chronic Illness & Pregnancy webinar. People asked such great questions and I have a feeling you will have some awesome comments to add to the blog post I just wrote about the webinar. I did my best to sum up the whole hour of info into 10 take-aways, but I'm sure there was more I should've added. :) I'd love to have your thoughts on the post/the webinar/the topic in general!

Thanks!
Be well,
Amanda

Hi there! Welcome to WEGO Health. I'm a big fan of Twitter. I really think adding an account on Twitter will help you in many ways. First, it will help you connect with other people that share similar backgrounds, including "invisible illnesses." Second, Twitter will definitely help you spread the word about any work you're doing. I've been on Twitter for over two years. Twitter has helped me connect with other cancer survivors and make valuable connections in the health care community. If you ever want to chat more about Twitter, please feel free to contact me. Take care! Alicia

Hello Jenny,

I definitely think Twitter will work for you in the way you are wanting to use it. As a health activist, I have the same goals in mind and that is exactly what it does for me! I am able to share the messages of health regarding mental health issues, suicide prevention, chronic illness, fibromyalgia, women's health, etc with people I would never have had the opportunity to meet in real life. Because of Twitter, my reach is far greater than I ever imagined AND I have learned more from others than I ever could have imagined! The connections and relationships are a wonderful added bonus, but also a key part of "success" on Twitter.

My work with mental health issues is a great example, for I have established relationships with people all over the country and all over the world, all because of Twitter! It has been an amazing and wonderful experience and I have no doubt that it will be a great source of networking for you if you decide to pursue it!

If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask, otherwise, I fully recommend just diving in! You won't regret it! And let me know if/when you do, so I can make sure to follow you and help you out a bit.

Additionally, that is very exciting news about your plans to expand your family! I am thrilled for you. The timing really is perfect for the webinar. =)

Talk more soon.

Hi Jenny!
I want to welcome you to the Twitter for Health Activism group! I saw that you said you don't actually have a Twitter account, so I think it's great that you are curious and interested in everyone's opinion. I left you a comment within the group, but if you would like to discuss the topic more I would be more than happy to! Please feel free to message me through WEGO Health, comment on my page, however you would like to track me down... I'm around and would love to connect with you more.
Hoping you are doing well! Sending wellness wishes!
Amy K

Looking forward to the August 2nd Webinar, I see you've signed up for it too! =)
