More about me (my health interests and reasons for joining WEGO Health)
Hi everyone! I've spent my undergraduate and graduate careers studying psychology and focusing on eating disorder research. In addition to being a WEGO Health research expert, I'm also a freelance writer and editor, composing articles on everything from skin care and beauty to body image and hybrid cars. I love what I do, and I'm excited to be part of the WEGO Health team!

Other things I absolutely love: spending time with my family and boyfriend, going to see musicals and concerts, shopping (probably a little too much!) and watching fashion makeover and interior design shows.

Disordered eating: A national epidemic?

In a national survey by Self magazine, out of 4,000 women ages 25 to 45, it was revealed that 65 percent of women report disordered eating and 10 percent suffer from eating disorders; in other words, three out of four women “eat, think and behave abnormally around food,” says the article.

Other notably distressing findings include:

A study of 2,000 girls published in the British Journal of Psych… Continue

Diabetes and pregnancy: What you need to know

When women discover they’re pregnant, it becomes both a joyous time and a cautious one: immersing themselves in baby books, women begin planning for their baby’s arrival and taking care of themselves by eating right, avoiding smoking and alcohol and exercising.

For diabetics, however, it’s the care months beforehand that’s also vital – for both mom and baby.

According to today’s article, the number of women… Continue

Reality vs. retouching: How does it make you feel?

You’re at the grocery store aisle; you sneak a peek at the barrage of women’s magazines and notice a perfectly sculpted body, small waistline and smooth skin – the only fullness in the photo reserved to a pouty lip and the voluminous layers of wavy hair.

Maybe you think twice about the ice cream in your cart? Instantly feel uncomfortable with your love handles? Begin studying the photo to find a touch of imperfection to improve your suddenly ruined mood? Or simply utter the words, “I feel so fa… Continue

Research on negative body image

Have you ever felt so bad about the way you look that you decided to stay home? Ever skipped a dinner date, a family event or even work because of it?

If so, according to a recent article you’re not alone.

“Employers lose an estimated £114.4million every year due to “negative body image” sick notes,” says the article.

It also includes findings from a study of 1,000 women, which are equally as… Continue
