About me
I have been interested and worked in healthcare for the majority of my professional career. I worked 5 years for a psychiatric hospital, 7 years for a cardiopulmonary manufacturer, and the past year as an editor of medical transcription.

I have a personal interest in many areas because of friends and family being diagnosed. Some of those conditions are ADHD, Epilepsy, MS, Sensory Processing Disorder, Retinitis Pigmentosa, Usher's Syndrome, Autism, Multiple Cancers (Lung, Breast, and Colon), Heart Disease, and Diabetes.

I am active within several communities. Some of them include BabyCenter where I was a host, two epilepsy boards and several lung cancer boards.

Online child safety - How are you addressing this with your children?

This question is one that has many differing opinions as to what is best. It seems like now a days parents are able to control or "spy" on just about any activity their child takes an interest in. Computers now have parental controls that can either block sites completely or give parents a report on what sites their children have been visiting. Unfortunately there are ways around the system. In the not to recent past a young girl comm… Continue

Early versus delayed umbilical cord clamping

When I was pregnant with both of my children I belonged to many pregnancy boards. One of the questions that inevitably was asked was, "Are you going to speak with your doctor about when the umbilical cord should be clamped?" Umbilical cords for the most part were clamped almost immediately. Many doctors believed that early clamping could reduce the risk of mother's bleeding to death. Recently scientists have been questioning the risks that early clamping may have on newborns. Some recent studi… Continue

National infant immunization week (April 19th-26th)

Next week the American Academy for Pediatrics is bringing awareness to the importance of protecting infants from vaccine-preventable diseases. One of the best resources available on the AAP's website is a list of FAQ's about vaccines that are answered in an audio format. Some of the questions that are answered include, "Why pediatricians use combination vaccines?", "Why the flu vaccine is now recommended for children 6 months to 18 years?" and… Continue

Book explains why mommy is getting plastic surgery.

Newsweek is featuring an article on a new picture book that aims to explain to children why mommy is getting plastic surgery. Some of the surgeries mentioned in the book include tummy tucks, breast augmentation, and nose jobs. The book explains, "how mommy will soon be 'prettier', and shows where the bandages will be, and the finished product". The book came about after a plastic surgeon saw mother's bringing their children into plastic sur… Continue

Get involved in the fight against childhood obesity

If you are concerned about childhood obesity you might be interested in reading this PR Web article about a petition that National Action Against Obesity.com is launching against the YMCA of America. While the petition is directed at YMCA, the goal of the petition is to eliminate junk foods from ALL daycares, child care, and preschool centers. The article gives statistics that include: By 2015 75% of America's pop… Continue

I just now looked at your bio. Ok, now I know who you are. I have family members with ADD and epilepsy. They are tough to live with. The epilepsy can be particularly difficult in public.

Paula,

Thanks for introducing yourself. I have already joined a couple of the groups: Women's Health & the Allergy/Asthma. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone.
I have just started working from home recently. I am currently working with VocRehab on this venture. I do some blogging on Disaboom.com and DailyStrength.org.
I need to start a blog/articles to promote my business. It's the right direction for me. As long as I stay inside away from allergens/fragrances (which usually means very little socializing/working outside the home) I do pretty well. I do get out 2 times a week and yes, I notice the difference later in the evening on those 2 days.
I may have questions about working from home in the future. What do you do?
Regards
AnnS

Hi Paula,

Thanks for the invite! The little guy on the picture is actually a dwarf lop but I also have a holland lop--special guy needs a girlfriend! I have two bunnies and this one is the boy when he was a baby. He was barely bigger than my foot but he's grown a lot and is undergoing a major shed right now. My nose is really "thanking" him! I hope your bun isn't shedding as much as mine!

Thanks again for the invite--I will definitely check out the group!

Paula, I'm so glad that you like the videos. I'll continue to update them so that each Group has its own video/set of videos.
If you have any suggestions for videos, please let me know!

Thanks again!

Hi Paula!
Thanks for commenting on my ABCs on childhood melanoma video.
I had a pre-cancerous mole removed at age six; if it weren't for this experience, I'd have no idea what a serious problem this is.
Subblock for everyone!
Thank you again, Paula!
