Great post Rick! I completely agree. As a personal trainer I see many people that could have benefited from the preventative approach. While they are taking great steps toward health, many cannot afford services that they really need. I know I can...

I work on the eight glasses a day idea as well. The evidence may be anecdotal but when loosing weight I notice that my clients loose faster when they keep their water intake up. Nothing more then observation but it does appear to effect their weig...

Sounds like you are one of the ones blessed with a high metabolism. In order to gain weight you will most likely have to increase your calorie intake and do some strength/weight training to add the muscle. You mention you can eat all day but don't...

Great post Mr. Dorey! I'm a firm believer in total commitment to health and it's been my personal experience that consistency is the best approach. Instant gratification is always a brief encounter. You are correct in that it's all about forming ...

Great response and questions. Although I agree that doctors are busy and like the rest of us they have a limited amount of time, I still think that we have to change the way they look at patient care. My hope would be that they start to look more...

Rick, Interesting post. I think you brought up some points that many of us might not have considered. I know when I think of doctors, I tend to hope they are up on the latest and the greatest techniques. But I suppose that depends on their access ...

More about me (my health interests and reasons for joining WEGO Health)
I am a certified health coach that has walked the journey of weight loss. I understand the struggle to get past the hype and find something that works.

I now work with others to find their success before they just give up. Optimal health is available and with help you won't fail like 85% of those who just diet.

I work with a 3 phase approach to help people get the weight off, look at how to maintain that weight loss, and then strive for optimal health and longevity. Not just a diet and not leaving them on their own to survive.

We have a huge obesity problem and my experience taught me I could not rely on just eat less and exercise more to get my life back. I love helping people get healthy!

Newest Rant: Health Care and Obesity, Where are the real solutions?

I often try to stay away from politics on my blog because I am not here to debate political with anyone. I am however, driven to find new ways to reach the medical community and the services around it. Quickly rising to the number one killer in the United States is obesity. I, for one, was almost a statistic myself. I believe we have a fundamental flaw in our thinking about health care. It is we are trying to say health care is only dependent on the availability rather than the quality. Somehow… Continue

Weight Loss – What if nothing changes?

I am out there reading other peoples blogs and support forums all the time. I do it for a couple of reasons. I look for the reason that most people fail to do weight loss. I also look for the reasons they use not to stick with whatever program they are working with to loose weight.

They fall into many categories and so I thought this might be a good start for a new set of posts. One of the first reasons people fail I would like to address is the information that is presented on so many fronts.… Continue

Weight Loss – Baby Steps or Leap of Faith, Which One is Best For You?

I am always reading on how to make improvements in myself and was reminded this morning that some people need small incremental changes to begin any journey. You know the saying “Inch by Inch, anything is a chinch.” Others (like me) have to dive in and get something going right away so they can see the rewarded effort. Everyone is different in what they need.

Personally I think that is why having a health coach is so rewarding. I can customize my program or the way I work with someone to fit th… Continue

Weight Loss and Why Your Doctor may never help you

I was talking to one of the doctors on our team last night and asked the question on how it would be best to introduce a weight loss program to a doctor who had not seen it before. What I found may surprise you a bit.

I was told that it is close to impossible to get into a doctor’s office these days. That it didn’t even matter if you where a pharmaceutical rep, you would probably not get in unless you knew them personally. She suggested that our doctors are very busy people and they don’t like… Continue

So Do Know Anyone That Wants To Lose Some Weight?

During the recent event with the Taste of Home show I must have asked the question over 500 times. Almost every time I got a laugh and a response that went something like “Yes of course I want to lose some weight.” There were of course some loving partners that said “Yes my husband really needs to lose some weight.” What I normally follow up on after a few pleasant introductions to some very nice people was this: “Was that a want to or a need to?”

Let me explain why I ask. You see for over 20 y… Continue
