Depro Vera Shot and Estrogen Dominate Women

I had PCOS all through my teens and took birth control to keep it under control. The Doctors told me I should take the DEPO shot. A birth control injection. This was suppose to keep me from having a menstrual cycle... no cycle, meant not egg to be passed, no egg, meant no cyst...but I had adverse effects. I bleed for 8months straight, some days lighter than other but I bleed every day for 8MONTHS! The doctors said there was nothing they could do, they had to let the Depo shot take it's course.…See More

The doctors said there was nothing they could do, they had to let the Depo shot take it's course. This shot caused my body to hemorrhage and shed the lining of uterus for months causing scaring and my PCOS turned to stage 1 ovarian cancer and Precancerous Cells on my cervix. They say it wasnt bc of the shot, but I have researched and have read where other girls and other woman have had the same thing happen to them. Later I found out I was estrogen Dominate and that the healthy foods I was eating to get my body back into a healthy state were actually hurting me. I had Ovarian cancer a 2nd time at 20... It took me years of pain and lots of research to find 1 doctor that could tell me what my problem was. And it made since. After my first experience, i freaked out and started eating really healthy. So I thought. I stopped drinking milk bc of the hormones in it and drank soy milk.. and ate more Organic raw veggies, and ate more greek and Mediterranean foods. Little did I know it was all bad for me, due to High levels of ESTROGEN> And now I can't eat carrots, chick peas(hummus), rosemary, oregano, Soy, Carrots, black licorice, there are many foods and herbs that are high in Estrogen. So I join this site to learn more about my health and to help educate others about what I know.

Sheena,

Wow! First of all, welcome to WEGO Health! I am so encouraged to see a Health Activist such as yourself in our community. I'm glad to see that you've found the WEGO Health Women's Health community.

Second, my name is Sarah and I am the current Community Leader within the women's health community working to educate members and spread the good (and sometimes not-so-good) news in the Women's Health realm. My main interests lie in women's HIV and AIDS prevention education and so I am also the Community Leader for the WEGO Health HIV community. Lately in the women's health community, we've been talking about our New Year's resolutions and whether we're wearing the right bra size!

It looks like you've been joined some of the groups around WEGO Health and it's encouraging to know that your health interests are so widespread. Makes you a very well-rounded Health Activist! I see that you haven't had a chance to take the WEGO Health What Type of Health Activist Are You? quiz. It's quick and easy and for most people seems to pinpoint their Health Activist type pretty well. I am a Broadcaster and love getting the word out about new women's health information - or maybe I just like to talk! I encourage you to head over and take it when you have a chance!

I would also like to invite you to speak with me further on your experiences with cervical cancer. I would be interested in doing an interview of sorts to feature on my blog here at WEGO Health for cervical cancer awareness month. Please let me know if you'd be interested and comfortable with that!

Either way, I truly look forward to seeing you around the women's health community!

Be Well,

Sarah
