More about me (my health interests and reasons for joining WEGO Health)
Before joining the pediatrics department at Columbia University Medical Center, I received my BS in Biology from Colorado State University. There I worked in the virology department at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, researching vector-borne diseases such as West Nile Virus and Dengue Fever. Recently, I received my MS in Public Health from the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, with an emphasis in health policy and management.
Last fall I wrote a proposal for a pilot project on malnutrition. With that proposal, I was invited to Jos, Nigeria this Spring to work with an organization called Faith Alive - a health and wellness clinic for women and children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. While I was there I led a group of Nigerians to implement this pilot project on malnutrition, using a peanut butter-based therapy. It was truly an amazing and life-changing experience.
Now that I'm back State-side, I'm continuing my work at Columbia University, and I'm applying to medical school, with the goal of focusing on international health.

Welcome to WEGO Health! We're so glad you're here.
I noticed first that you joined our thyroid group (among others) and hope that you will consider posting any questions or experiences you might have with thyroid. We're just getting it started, so hang in there with us!
I also couldn't help but notice so many interesting things that you've done in the health field... So interesting! It seems we share a few common interests-- Dengue Fever and West Nile Virus, and malnutrition are real interests of mine as a result of personal experience with all 3. I envy you your experience in Nigeria. That's my #1 on my life list, go to Africa even for a short while, to feed the hungry. You found your way there. I hope someday I can do the same.
I hope you get an opportunity to share some of your experiences with us here.
