More about me (my health interests and reasons for joining WEGO Health): I'm a 58-year-old grandmother of 14. My interest in all things medical began when I was still a young mother of 4 and discovered the joy of perusing medical encyclopedias and dictionaries in search of answers to why my kids had a rash, or how to treat bee stings. The internet opened up a whole new world to me, just in time, as I was dx'd in 1997 with fibromyalgia, 2004 with lupus, and 2005 with Graves' disease. My lupus and Graves' are currently in remission, but the FM more than makes up for it. Along with FM, of course, comes a whole array of health disorders, such as IBS, TMJ, GERD, osteoarthritis, scoliosis, eczema, allergies, depression, anxiety, migraines and dystonia. My mother, her father and an aunt, and her sister, all had Alzheimer's before they died. My father and his three brothers and their father all died of heart disease. My son has diabetes. One of my daughters has endometriosis, another has chronic fatigue syndrome, both have fibromyalgia, and I have a whole slew of grandchildren who have ADHD, one who is autistic and epileptic, and several who have asthma. Oh...and two of my children are substance abusers. Three of my grandchildren are quite possibly bipolar. Hence, my own commitment to doing medical research. It took over 20 years before I finally got my dx of FM, whereas my two daughters received theirs within a year of seeing their doctors. For me, knowledge truly is power.
