More about me (my health interests and reasons for joining WEGO Health)
Living with multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis can create challenges. By becoming a patient advocate, I have found that sharing information, knowledge, and support creates a better environment, mentally and physically, for myself as well as others.

Through my blog, Brass and Ivory, I have discovered a wonderful community of individuals who each strive to do the same for themselves and others. Together we can speak up and become advocates for ourselves, for individuals in our communities, and for those who are unable to do so for themselves.

#HAWMC Day Six - Writing is Good Therapy

Posted on April 6, 2011 at 10:41am 3 Comments

The blog prompt today in the WEGO #HAWMC was “I write about my health because…”  Reflect on why you write, in writing. Meta!  The resultant post at Brass and Ivory took a different turn from where it began.  Ask me the same question tomorrow (or in two weeks during the…

The Absurdity of MS and RA

Posted on April 4, 2011 at 2:27pm 0 Comments

Post at Brass and ivory

Word of the day: Ludicrous (thanks to Amanda of Wegohealth)

Aspects of living with chronic illness can be absurd or ridiculous.  There have been times where I looked at the boxes (yes plural) of medication and vitamin pill bottles that I have stored and thought to myself - “how in the world did I get here?”

How did I…

Hi Lisa!
I wanted to welcome you to the Twitter for Health Activism group. I hope you will feel free to join the discussions and to start your own! There is so much to learn about how best to use Twitter for health activism, wouldn't you agree?
Looking forward to your participation.
Wellness wishes,
Amy K

Hey Lisa,
I just wanted to let you know that because you were a Featured Health Activist on WEGO Health, I stopped by your profile to check you out! I was sure to read some of the entries from Brass & Ivory and was impressed by your ability to only eat two of the cinnamon rolls you wrote about. I would have eaten so many more. I am a bad temptation-eater even if I know it's not "worth" it.

My uncle lives with MS and so I have seen some of the personal struggle that comes with living with the condition. I am glad that you have been able to find an outlet (both in blogging and here at WEGO Health) to help you cope with it.

Thanks again for your contributions here, you are appreciated!

Congratulations Lisa! You've been added as a Featured Health Activist on the home page of WEGO Health (www.wegohealth.com)! Take a moment to check yourself out and while you're there, why not say hi to the other Health Activists. You should be proud of yourself so be sure to let others know you've been featured!

Thanks for your additions to the WEGO Health community - we're thrilled to have you!

Lisa I'm so happy to see you've joined us! When I've done any MS research in the past - I always seem to find myself at one of your many awesome online contributions. I think you're an excellent example of a Health Activist who clearly empowers other patients. In fact, I hope you'll check out the Health Bloggers Group (it would be great to have yousubmit a post to our blog carnival!) and the Twitter for Heath Activism. I think you have a lot of experience to offer our community :)

Please feel free to share any blog posts you've written, any of your youtubes, and most importantly any discussions you may want to the MS group! You are a great example of how spreading awareness can turn into activism (a topic we're often discussing here on WEGO Health).

If you have any questions/comments/suggestions/thoughts - please let me know! I'm looking forward to learning from you!
-Amanda
