Wow! And here I thought it was just me? I always blamed menopause for having those middle of the night blasts of hot desert air. Most forums that I come in contact with, we joke about what a blessing and a curse that menopause is. The fact that we...

I often don't speak up and say much. I don't know if it's fear of being taken the wrong way, or if I feel that I am often in my own world of pain and it's mine to deal with. I guess it's a bit of both. I don't want to sound as if I am a know it al...

Hi everybody! I see this forum being a great resource of information over the next few weeks and months. Hopefully our voices will go a long way on helping decide on just what public policy should be.

First of all let me say how sorry I am you are going through this. While I don't have any experience with herpes my daughter recently contracted HPV from her second ever boyfriend. While it is indeed heart breaking it can be some what controlled. ...

Thank heavens they found something new. It used to be a terrible way to diagnose and then you still felt that it might be all in your head when you complained to your doctor or ob-gyn, about the pain and how heavy your periods were.

I am a strong supporter of medical (patient) issues as I am looking at total reconstructive surgery on both my left and right feet. But I am unwilling to do so without exhaustive research into alternative methods.

Caregiver, Daughter, Parent

When my mom first got sick and fell and broke her back, of course my reaction was," I will come and take care of you mom." No problem, right? I am the only daughter and the youngest of 4 kids. Well seven years later I finally finished my "job".
I can say it was one of the most heart wrenching, bitter sweet experiences of my life and while I wouldn't trade it for the world, I just wish I would have known about all the resources and services available to me. So if you are ever in a care giver posi… Continue

Hi Terrie!

My son also has flat arches, which is in direct contrast to hubby's very high arches. His ankles also are very 'bendy'. We also live on a farm (maybe you could tell by my photo with my beautiful Sammy lol) so I understand the kind of physical labor you did.

First, I guess I would say, be proud of the way you grew up and how hard you worked. Today, a work ethic is hard to come by, and those who give it their all are valued.

I guess I do wonder at all the fractures though. There is a place on the metatarsals (4th or 5th) I can't remember exactly where, that often breaks in women - and they don't even know it when it happens! My daughter actually broke the 3rd and it is causing her pain. The DO we go to suggested the new Skechers Shape-up shoe (like a cheaper version of the MBT) to help strengthen her foot to compensate for the damage. In her case, the tendon is quite scarred creating a bump that is hard enough we all thought it was bone. She wears a velcro splint and we hope to be able to get her the shoes soon. In the meantime, she is doing exercises to strengthen the area.

Has your doctor ever explained that exercises can help most people with foot problems like these? Have you ever tried to strengthen the area?

Boy, I understand the pain aspect of your dilemma. My pain can be so bad I have gone days with only a few scattered moments of sleep because it has me tossing and turning all night. I started a discussion in the Chronic Pain group here called Sleep interrupted by chronic pain?. maybe you would like to join in there and tell of your experience.

Have you discussed this on other sleep problem communities? I'm wondering what others might have to say. What about pain, or foot disorder communities? Have you found threads or community members there that were helpful?

There is another group you might be interested in participating in - Chronic Pain. There is a great group of chronic pain leaders there that may be able to give some guidance if you'd like.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal pain. It really does change almost every aspect of our lives, doesn't it. Living well with pain is difficult, but it can be done.

How do you cope with your pain? Do you have any interesting tips you would like to share? I'm always looking for good ideas to try!

Hello paindfoot - welcome to the Sleep Problems group. We're so glad to meet you!

There is a brand new introduction thread - we'd love to learn more about what brings you to to the home of Sleep Health Activists.

I also noticed you mentioned needing reconstructive surgery on both of your feet. Do you mind if I ask what has happened to them? I myself have Raynaud's, and my feet have recently become a real problem for me - they are horribly painful and turn blue. I'm trying to stay away from medicines that cause this circulation problem to worsen, but it's very difficult. One of our nurses just had all but part of one toe removed from her feet because of Raynaud's, so that really shocked us and brought it home for me. Sadly, I don't think there is anything that can be done for her feet though. Anyway, WEGO Health is a great place to connect with other Health Activists and I can't help but think there is probably someone else out there who might benefit from your story.

It's great to "meet you" paindfoot - I am really looking forward to bumping into you in some of your other groups as well. Have a fabulous weekend!
