Amy K Connection: Fibromyalgia and Pregnancy

With all of the risks associated with a healthy pregnancy, many women aren’t eager to know about another health concern associated with pregnancy. At the same time, having resources and information is integral to taking the best care of your body and your baby. I’ve noticed that women in my community don’t talk about the connection that can exist between Fibromyalgia and pregnancy. I wanted to bring it up and see if other Health Activists find this missing as well. When this happened to me I ha… Continue

Amy K Why Am I Here?

As a person seeking to find her niche in life, I thought it would be interesting to share with you why I am here at WEGO Health. I have asked myself that question before...do I fit in here? Am I what they are looking for as a member of this community. I am finding that my niche isn't necessarily in one spot or area, but rather in several spots and that I do have something to contribute. My start in activism began with my involvement in a campaign for suicide prevention for the… Continue

Ellen S B12 injection basics

Yes, it's true - it is possible to do your own intra-muscular injections. Intramuscular injections are quite easy to do yourself at home. As insurance becomes more problematic, doctor's office appointments become more expensive and the income many patients can direct toward basic health care declines, many patients may want to learn to self-inject their medicines, including B12. Of course the first thing to do is talk to your doctor. He/she may be reluctant to prescribe your B12 for home injec… Continue

Ellen S LDN- Low Dose Naltrexone for Fibromyalgia, Autoimmunity... and Migraine?

I've Tweeted about Low Dose Naltrexone, but I don't think I've written here about it yet. I wanted a very complete post - it's the perfectionist in me. That's not happened yet, but something else has: Research just released from Stanford School of Medicine shows that in a small preliminary study, LDN was found helpful for the pain of Fibromyalgia. This isn't new to those like me who have been fo… Continue

Adrienne Researching helpful chronic pain resources - any ideas for us?

Hi everyone I'm doing some research on chronic pain and I'm wondering what resources you rely on. What groups are you a part of? What blogs do you read? Where have you found the most support for yourself? Or what sites do you recommend to people who are suffering from chronic pain? I know there are quite a few members of our community dealing with Fibromyalgia so I'm interested to hear what you have to say as well. Many thanks, Adrienne Continue

Amy K Out of the Darkness Community Walk: I Did It!

It was a beautiful day in Kansas City today. I was blessed with the opportunity to be a part of the 2008 Out of the Darkness Community Walk to support the American Foundations for Suicide Prevention (www.afsp.org) in a 3 mile walk along the Missouri River. It was a brisk, chilly October morning but I was greeted by smiling faces and a group of many walking to further the cause and also walking in remembrance of lost loved ones. They had tables set up where you could hang a beautiful brightly col… Continue

Lesly Health Advocacy, 2.0: Blogging For a Cause

I am constantly amazed by how the internet can pull people together.

Introducing Lindsey

While developing a cluster of WEGO Health pages devoted to fibromyalgia and chronic pain, I stumbled onto the excellent Living with Fibromyalgia blog. Within a 24-hour period, I introduced myself to Lindsey, the author, via email, asked for her expert opinion on some of the pages that I'm building, worked out a co-p… Continue
