The Family Caregiver Alliance's Alzheimer's Disease Fact Sheet has all of the most basic information that caregivers might need about Alzheimer's disease, including facts and symptoms for all three stages of Alzheimer's disease. There is also a subsection specifically aimed towards the caregiver. It includes a number of tips for caregivers in each stage of the disease.
I was also reading up on communicating with Alzheimer's patients, as that was the biggest issue with my grandmother when she had it.
The Mayo Clinic has a guide called
Communicating Effectively with a Person Who Has Alzheimer's. It lists ways in a caregiver can more easily communicate with a patient. It can often be particularly hard for an adult relative to lose all communication with an ailing parent. In the case of my grandmother, she lost her ability to communicate early on. The effects on the family can be devastating. It's good to know that there are means of support available!
