This one time ... in fifth grade ...

... I got kicked out of the classroom for sneezing 63 times in a row. I kept a penciled tally on the desk. I became quite the distraction and was asked to leave. Mrs. S never opened the window while they were mowing the field again. Ever. No matter how hot it was.

I finally feel like it's the height of Oregon allergy season; I can't stop sneezing, I've gone through an entire box of Kleenex this week, food doesn't taste right and not even menthol spray can clear out my left nostril. I am allergic to ragweed and grass pollen and right now it's blooming EVERYWHERE around here. I'm thankful that I live alone since my snot face holds a heap of redness ... including two eyes and my nose. I also have to breathe through my mouth since that menthol spray does.not.work.

I have tried all the tricks.
Allergy medications.
Hot showers.
Cold showers.
Washing my face frequently.
Washing my sheets frequently.
Washing my pillows.
Vacuuming w/the HEPA filtered vacuum.
Keeping the house closed all day long.
Keeping the house OPEN all day long.

EVERYTHING.

Just like last year, and the past ten years of my life. Nothing touches my seasonal allergies. I live with them for about two months out of the year, and while that's not as bad as living with a permanent food allergy, it's still not a pleasant couple of months.

What are your seasonal allergy solutions? Are you on a prescription medication? Do you get allergy shots? Do you wear a wet mask to hold the pollen away? Do you live inside for months on end? Share your strange tips with me ... maybe we can make that left nostril clear out!

My son has been taking his Zyrtec daily which seems to help for the most part. I noticed the last few days that his asthma cough is back. We had stopped his Flovent for the season, but I"m starting that up again (he was still taking the Singulair so we will continue with that too) and I added in the Albuterol puffer today. Hopefully things will quiet down soon. I remember last year it went into July.
A while ago I did a blog post on Seasonal Allergies and put WEGO Healths most helpful SA information in there if you'd like to review it. Preparing for seasonal allergy season

Hope you feel better soon!!

Wow, I had no idea that acupuncture could help with allergies! Did you start going to the acupuncturist for your allergies or for something else? My dad has such bad allergies that they keep him up for several hours at night and nothing seems to work. Maybe he should try it!

Also, lisa wrote this post a few weeks ago about how global warming is making our allergies worse! You may want to check it out.

63?! I'm a "multi-sneezer" and that beats my record (17? 20?) big time.

I hear you on allergy season though...This year seems to be particularly bad in New England.

I keep telling myself that allergy season has to end sometime, but I'm not sure the trees have gotten the message yet.

So far, I've been keeping to my usual (for the past two years, anyway) routine: acupuncture every other week, and herbs 3x a day from my acupuncturist. Plus lots of tissues, and minimal time outdoors. It's hard, whenever everyone else is enjoying the warm weather, but I know I'm better off waiting until Summer comes.
