World Alzheimer's Day is tomorrow (Sept 21), and a lot of what I've been reading about Alzheimer's disease lately has to do with remembering. Many of the wonderful people I've interviewed, especially those with Alzheimer's disease, explain their reason for blogging or keeping a journal. Mostly, it's used as a way to remembering things for later, but a lot of Alzheimer's bloggers are using their blogs as a way of letting family and friends in on the progress of the disease.
Mary Lockhart uses her blog,
Mary's Place, to reach out to others. "I wanted to keep track of my life, and let people know there is still life after diagnosis. I don’t think I would be doing so well today if I didn’t have my blog and people encouraging me."
Another blogger,
Kris Bakowski, who writes
Dealing with Alzheimer's Blog/Creating Memories, states her reason for blogging, "I'm hoping to use it as a journal of sorts to not only help me but my friends keep up with me. I have many many wonderful friends and family that keep up with me. I know it is as hard for them as it is me. They don't know how to ask how I'm doing and hopefully this will help them to understand."
So the question is, why blog about Alzheimer's? What are your reasons? I blog for awareness. I want to help get the word out about Alzheimer's disease.
What are your reasons?
