I wanted to get this community started up a bit with some reviews and resources. WEGO has some articles listed under Infertility in their Women’s Health section. The first one I looked at was Infertility Basics. This is a broad overview of infertility – causes and treatments. It is a good starting place to those just starting out, or those who have friends or family going through infertility wants some basic information. I really liked that WEGO has the link to Psychological Effects. The psychological impact of infertility is very often overlooked. This is a basic article and more in-depth ones would also be helpful. But women (and men) need to know they are not alone and what they are feeling is OK. The last one I reviewed was a video on ART (assisted reproductive technology). This was an excellent video overview of ART. It is done in an interview format with a doctor. They also have links on the page to other videos touching on other areas of infertility.
Some other sites that I have used through the years are: Resolve is a national organization that works to offer support and information to those battling infertility. They also work to increase awareness. They have local chapters in addition to the information on their website. The CDC publishes annual Assisted Reproductive Technologies success rates by clinic. The latest report available is for 2005. It is a good reference for those searching for a clinic, although until you’re more familiar with the terminology, you may need a bit of help interpreting the information. Another source for these success rates, as well as help finding local clinics is SART or Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology. You can easily search by state and get information on clinics as well as their success rate reports. Under their “For Patients” link you will have access to information on infertility and treatments. I think this information is a good place to start. If anyone else has any good resources or favorite sites, please feel free to share them.
