Colonoscopy- Preparing for your journey, and the adventure you'll miss!

Yep. Had one. Got thru it. Lived to tell about it. Don't really want to tell about it tho, so will provide this link instead. The colonoscopy itself is a piece of cake. It's the prep that will never be forgotten.

Believe me, Dave Barry has a much more expressive way of detailing the entire process than I could ever get the guts up to describe, and he is sooooo funny!

If you know anyone about to take their first colonoscopy journey, they'll want to see this. If you know someone who has already been to 'Colonoscopy Oz' and made it back to Kansas, they'll love to see this too. OR.....

Perhaps you're just needing a little smile today?

ENJOY!

Oh Adrienne, I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother. So many people die of colon cancer, and the sad thing is that it is almost always treatable/preventable with the use of this annoying little procedure. It is not necessary to die of this kind of cancer! These tests are important, and with your health you cannot assume anything and be safe because the odds say you're most likely okay. Like yearly pap smears, mammograms and prostate exams, we just need to learn to suck it up and get it done. If you can't bring yourself to do it for yourself, do it for your friends and family. So many people are afraid of this test, which is one of the reasons I placed the post. I didn't know anyone with this experience when I had one at about age 40, so it was a bit frightening. I remembered some lower GI's I'd had done back in the dark ages that still make me shudder, and I anticipated this would be worse. I needn't have worried, it was a piece of cake. My mom had her first and only done a few years back and swore off of them. She's one of the rare ones blessed with a twisted colon and she's now afraid of colonoscopies. It's nearly time to start begging her to have it done again, so wish me luck. :)

Great post, Ellen! And great article. On a more serious note, my grandmother died of colon cancer - she was not screened properly and had been talking to her primary care physician for quite a while about symptoms. A total waste - still makes me angry.

So happy that you got through yours, as Dave Barry explained, and you mentioned also, the prep is the worst part. I don't really want to experience this, I have watched my young daughter go through this, with my assistance, and I vowed then that I would try to avoid it for as long as possible. But, as a grown up, when the doctor orders it, I will do it!
Thanks for this reminder of what an important test this is to participate it, and so glad you came out on the other side, with a smile.
