These videos show an approach to treating asthma attacks that uses both medicine and an holistic approach. There are a series of three videos in all and they start with mild asthma attacks, move to moderate attacks and end with severe asthma attacks. The holistic approach is not something that I've seen before to treat an asthma attack.
What do you think of the holistic approach? Is this something that you think you would try or have you already tried it?
I like these videos. I'm not too sure about the "holistic" portion of them but they show how asthma attacks differ and they show what asthma attacks look like. There is also a very realistic wheezing sound in the beginning of each video. It's so real that it actually bothers me to listen to it. It gives someone who may not know what to listen for a fairly accurate audio picture of someone struggling breathe.
The one thing that I question is the suggestion to not what for EMS and to drive the person having an asthma attack to the Emergency Room yourself. I'm not sure I agree with this. I think it really depends on your proximity to the ER. If you are fairly close, this may be OK, but we live 35-45 minutes from the nearest ER depending on traffic, and if the attack escalates to the point of needing oxygen or emergency meds, I think it would be better to wait the 5-10 minutes for EMS. What do you think? Would you drive someone to the ER or wait for Emergency Medical Services? Have you ever had to make this decision for yourself or someone else?
I do think these videos have some great educational material in them. Feel free to take them back to your community to use as educational tools or to start a conversation about holistic medicine and asthma.
