WEGO Health

Hey everybody, I'm starting a health activist book club. Anyone out there want to join me? I'd love to hear suggestion on books to read that will help us expand our knowledge about health issues and health activist leaders.

Here are some books I'd like to read and discuss:

Here's six suggestions for the club. What would you add to the list? This list covers a nice mix of topics including cancer and women's health, activist guidelines, and social change.

What are you reading? Is there a book that really captures the essence of health activists or activism?

Please add your suggestions. Once we have 10 suggestions, I'll set up a poll so we can vote on the first book. I'll announce the first Book Club selection on March 1st! Once I determine the amount of interest in our Book Club, I'll let you know if we have enough folks to host a tweetchat or livestream event to discuss the selection at the end of March.

Alrighty - I think I can jump in on this! I love to read and could always use some educational motivation.

I don't have any specific books that I've read or would like to read, so I'm going to check out the ones you've listed and see if anything jumps out at me. From what I read, Bornstein's "How to Change the World" looks like a good read. I will keep an eye out for other book suggestions and drop them by here when they pop up!

I'm in too! I'll add a couple of suggestions but they are really food allergy related so I'm not sure that they'll fit here. I'll let you be the judge:

The Unhealthy Truth by Robyn O'brien

Gluten Free Girl: How I Found the Food That Loves Me Back...And How You Can Too
by Shauna James Ahern

I'm looking forward to everyone's suggestions and some really good reads!!

I'd also be interested in The Unhealthy Truth! I've heard good things about that!

I've just started reading Nudge, which is about the small changes that can make a big difference in the choices people make (where certain foods are displayed in the grocery store, for instance) - might be another interesting addition to the list?

Alicia - I'd love to share my book and my suggestions for self-activism: You Bet Your Life! The 10 Mistakes Every Patient Makes (How to Fix Them to Get the Health Care You Deserve) It's all about turning all patients into activists for themselves and their families. http://YouBetYourLifeBooks.com
