WEGO Health

All over the country and around the world STDs have been on the rise, but why? People believe that it's the parents fault, or the Government for not providing proper sex education in schools, or even the music and media of this time of age but really it's everyones fault including all the people that don't bother to get tested and spread the diseases around unknowingly.

One of the main issues is people don't realize that there infected with a sexually transmitted disease in the first place because symptoms can be very mild, mistaken for something else, non-existent, or just ignored. If we take the STD herpes for example and ask a hundred people what the symptoms are they will tell you a gross blister like in these pictures of herpes (pics half way down page) but in reality you can be infected with the virus and not know it for months or even years. On top of the lack of symptoms when people do get tested for an STD they don't realize that when getting tested for STDs they don't always test for everything unless you ask specifically.

If society keeps going down the path that its going we'll have a full fledge epidemic on our hands. We need to all stand up teach our children the proper way to protect themselves and be more responsible ourselves.

Thanks for posting this, Jen!

I was shocked when I learned that herpes is not routinely tested for during STI testing, or physicals. You have to specifically ask your doctor to test you for the most common STI in America! Hard to see how it's a coincidence that people aren't getting tested for herpes and the rate of infections is increasing.

Do you think a growing awareness of treatment options (I'm thinking about the commercials for the HPV shot, or the couples talking about herpes) is causing people to be more cavalier about STIs? Or are these increases resulting from a lack of education about prevention?
