I'm a bit late to the game on this month's blog carnival but I couldn't resist sharing what I am thankful for in Health Activism. I agree with
Janeen that it's a hard thing - to narrow the list down to three - even though there are a lot of struggles that I see here on a daily basis, there's also a ton to be thankful for.
For me, the three things I am most thankful this November are:
1. My Google Reader - This might sound silly but I really do love my Google Reader. I am thankful that Google made it for me (just for me) and that I've learned how to use it. One of my biggest struggles in Health Activism (and let's face it - in life) is feeling like I am keeping up with the latest, greatest, and best. The internet is never-ending and we all know how exhausting it can be to try to check all the important blogs every day - because there are dozens, if not hundreds, for every topic. Google Reader really helped me to simplify this process. I am no longer reliant on newsletters or bookmarks or remembering to constantly check certain sites; it's all aggregated for me. I still have trouble keeping up but I don't feel quite like I might be missing an entire trend or topic.
2. The Health Activist Spirit - Like
Amanda, I am a huge fan of the seemingly unquenchable Health Activist spirit. I am continually awed and inspired by how excited, open, honest, and challenging all of you are on a day to day basis. I see it on WEGO Health, in personal blogs, at conferences, everywhere! You guys are awesome and I am thankful for that.
3. Perspective - It can be so easy to get caught up in one's own day-to-day troubles and hurdles. I am extremely thankful for the perspective that comes with Health Activism. Sure, whatever I am facing today might be tricky, painful, horrible even... but the perspective to look around and realize that 1. It's probably not as bad as someone else's day 2. I am not alone and 3. I have a strong support network... is invaluable.
This post is my November entry in the Health Activist Blog Carnival. If
