Ellen, thanks for the friendly welcome to WEGO Health. I suffer migraine myself, but have never discovered any food-related causes, therefore I haven't been motivated to search for recipes. If I come across any, I will certainly let you know. Lisa

I don't believe D'arcy is insulin resistant. However, his blood sample taken Friday is having a full blood screen/test to test for the presence of the bacterial infection. I'll keep this in mind, though. Anna

Ok...just typed a message and it disappeared! I am going to try the cocktail of magnesium, spirulina, and melatonin in powder form mentioned in the Practical Horseman article. D'arcy seemed a bit better today which leads me to think that his allergy shots are slowing building for him. I've spent a few months building D'arcy's immune system, but he has a bacterial infection that we have been treating for a couple of months. I have asked the vet to run a blood panel to see where his levels are though. Nice to meet you over the web! Anna

Domperidone isn't approved for use in humans in the U.S. though the FDA will (usually) turn a blind eye on compounding pharmacies that want to compound it since another of the uses is to increase prolactin for women having trouble getting enough milk production to breast feed. Thing is, this is easily at least double the cost of ordering it from abroad. The reason it's not approved, is that the FDA wanted the manufacturer to do a whole new round of testing and the manufacturer wanted the FDA to accepted the EU testing and they couldn't reach any sort of agreement - so the manufacturer refused to release it in this market for use in humans since it didn't like any of the FDA's terms. So I got mine from NZ, it's about 1/3 of the cheapest compounding pharmacy here that'd make it.

Hello Ellen, I have Paroxysmal Kenesigenic Dystonia I have had it since I was in 6th grade I am now 25. It does not act up all the time, it seems to act up when I am doing something active like running or playing basketball.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome.
I was sent this site by another wonderful Dystonia sufferer via youtube. My Dystonia has not had an official diagnosis at this point. I have been through the loops several times.I am one of those that it has taken years for it to come to light. It is unknown yet if it is idiopathic or due to underlining condition. I see you understand this with your health complications. My Dystonia effects many body parts and does ebb and flow. I always feel some kind of pain, lots in my neck and head. I take trips to the PT often this has been effective for some of the pain. I have had this for eight years now, and doing pretty well. I am married (13 years) have 4 children, 11, 8, 5,and 3. A couple of our children have learning disabilities and all go to school at home, so I too will be checking out a couple of different sections here at WEGO Health too.
Take care
Amber

hi ellen..a friend of my daughter's has been suffering with migraines for the last two years..having one almost every day..she has been seen by a couple neurologists and her pcp and they just keep giving her drugs which aren't helping her..as i was talking to her i thought of you..i have read many of your posts in the dystonia group and remembered that you too suffer from migraines..i told her about the wego site and how helpful it has been to me with my dystonia..and i thought that it might be of some help to her too..not only education wise but just to have others to talk to that are experiencing the same things that she is..i was going to send her to the migrain group but noticed that it hasn't been active since back in december..i was wondering what was the best way for me to get her help from your group..this poor girl is about at her wits end and she is only 24 years old!!

i would appreciate any help or advice that you might give to me so that i can pass it on to her..

thank you very much!!

I use Feverfew herbal tablets to alleviate the migraines I get from having Botox injections. Sometimes they have lasted up to five days but appear to improve somewhat with extended use of the tablets. I take 2 when they come. though I do take ordinary Anadins too. Lavender essential oil can help when rubbed on the temples or a few drops on your pillow at night will help you sleep. I have trouble taking conventional medicines, so I use a variety of alternative treatments, which I have for years, since I know they work well for me & in some ways may have stopped my condition worsening before now. Californian Poppy capsules, which are vegetarian are also good for migraines & neuralgia, which also appears to be a fairly common complaint with those of us dystonia sufferers.

Am impressed with your knowledge of conventional treatments though I would not really find them suitable for myself, but if they work for some then that is a great thing.

WOW, you have a ton of KNOWLEDGE!!! CLearly, I am already taking the wrong stuff- got the B-12 and folic acid at Target! I am taking 1 pill daily, but even i pill of magnessium is making my tummy not good, it makes me sad because I was thinking the other side effects may have been helping- SO, should I just try doing the B-12 sublinguilly and NOT do folic acid??? Much appreciation!!!! Be well!!! L

:-) Chocolate is NOT our friend either! Sadly, I admitted that a year ago!!! My son still will not admit that, so he dabbles with it and if there aren't a bunch of his other triggers around he can sometimes get away with it! You know how that goes!!! Roses aren't so great either... how about for you?? I guess your husband isn't buying those for himself?!?!?! HAHAHAH!!!! I can't complain, my husband has actually gotten me tickets in the past for Josh Groban and Celene DIon... and he is really not a fan of either.. so I know that is really out of love for me!!!! I truly believe Valentine's Day is a CROCK!!! I believe you should be showing people you love you love them everyday, not just save it all for one day!!!! But that's me... My two most dreaded days.. Valentine's and Halloween... I digress.... the magnessium has been not great on my digestive system... I am trying the B12 and folic acid.... the problem is I don't know how much.... any thoughts??? Many thanks!!! Happy V-day! L

Ellen,

thanks for the invite.. A friend of mine suffers badly from migraines, perhaps checking that group out would help her?
