Can't exercise with migraine? Just move then. Just for 1 minute. Set your timer and move one finger, all your fingers, your toes, your hands or feet, arms and/or legs, or your whole body. Whatever you can. Do that
on purpose once today. Just once. Just one minute. Do whatever you can and no more.
You can do this!
Do it again tomorrow, and every day until the weekend. Think you can do more? Don't!
Start again next Monday, but this time look at your clock or set your timer and move
anything, on purpose, for two minutes. Do that for a week, then move on to 3 minutes, or 5... whatever you think you can continue to do for the full week.
Start slow. Start small. Don't give up. If you only make it half-way, you've succeeded! Do the second half later in the day if you can,
on purpose.
Baby steps.
Baby bites.
You can do anything if you break it down into tiny enough steps, or bites. Whatever it is you are doing,
do it on purpose.
Purposeful movement of any kind can help prevent migraine, and may even help ease the symptoms 'in the long run' (pun intended). You may not feel a difference today, tomorrow, or even next month. Moving may not even seem to help your migraine attacks, but it will help your body and your brain. It helps you to stay healthy. It also increases
endorphins- a brain chemical that is low in migraine. Endorphins do many things, but also act like morphine- a potent pain killer.
Want to have fun with the chore of moving
on purpose? This crazy site,
Flylady.net has the most fun I've seen in a long time. Join Flylady.net and their
Bless Your Heart Club for their virtual walking tour of the world! Write down your time, add it to everybody else's and it is automatically converted to miles. See where it takes us!
Clues keep you guessing and motivated to keep going. The purple box down the middle of the page explains how it works, then this
LINK lets you join in by adding the minutes you moved
on purpose today. You won't see where we're going until you've added your minutes tho... The tour began on May 1, but that doesn't matter, Flylady tells you to just jump in wherever you are right now. She says you can do anything in 15 minutes and you should start there, but Flylady doesn't have migraine. My suggestion is to start with just 1.
Years ago I was lucky enough to take a REAL walking tour in the first place we are visiting, so I guessed the first clue. (I love a good challenge) Can you guess the next one?
So...
How do you eat an elephant?...
...One tiny bite at a time!
