Plenty of people have argued that a person can be both overweight and healthy, but a recent, large study is casting doubt on that philosophy. Harvard-affiliated researchers reported the following:
Compared with normal-weight active women, the risk for developing heart disease was 54 percent higher in overweight active women and 87 percent higher in obese active women. By contrast, it was 88 percent higher in overweight inactive women; and 2 1/2 times greater in obese inactive women.
This research will most likely get the medical community debating the effects of obesity versus exercise, but it's difficult to argue with statistics like this.
I know several people that are both technically overweight yet very agile and active. just because someone is active it doesn't mean they are officially "fit".
