Children and diets are not a common combination even though more and more children are being classified as obese at an earlier age. Diets for children is a very specialized prescription and reviewed on a case by cases basis. Analyzing a child's diet of current foods should be reviewed by every parent. Sure, children should get "treats", cookies and all of the good things kids should enjoy, but moderation should be in a parents vocabulary when it comes to their child as well.
A child's overall diet should be reviewed by parents to make sure that all of the nutritional needs are being met without an extreme amount of calorie rich foods (high fat and or sugar content). Make sure candy and desserts are indeed treats and not snacks or food that is used as rewards on a regular basis.
If you feel as though your child's nutritional diet is well balanced, but fear weight is becoming an issue, please visit your doctor to discuss as there are a number of potential items for review. Do not put a child on any form of diet without consultation from a doctor as weight gain at a young age could be a sign of other issues that require professional review.
