How to deal with your child's food allergies when you have to go out of town without them

This is something that I've been stressing about the last few weeks and have tried to do some research so I thought it would make a timely blog post for me. My husband and I have to go out of town this weekend for business. Most people would be excited to have a few days away from the children, but I am not one of those people. Besides missing the kids terribly, I am seriously concerned about leaving my food allergic child. I have never left the kids over night before and I wouldn't do it this t… Continue

Who should treat my allergies?

My son’s allergies and asthma are treated by both his pediatrician and a pediatric allergist. Each brings something different and valuable to the table. Our pediatrician has been with my son since birth and knows how to treat the whole child – and when to differ to the allergist. Luckily for us, they work together (and with me) to keep my son healthy and happy. Whether for you or your child, here are some tips to finding and working with an allergist: 1.) First ask: Do I need an allergist/spec… Continue

Back to school with allergies

I know I've mentioned numerous times that at 10 months of age, my son suffered an anaphylactic reaction to wheat after eating the single-grain baby cereal I fed him. At the time, we had plenty of experience with debilitating seasonal allergies, but food allergies? Not even on our radar. Tests confirmed that our son is allergic to wheat, rye, barley, oat, eggs, dairy, peanut and tree nuts. He’s also allergic to cats, dogs, and way too many seasonal and environmental allergens to list. He also suf… Continue

Nasal irrigation for allergies?

In Sanskrit, jala neti means "nasal cleansing with water" and this technique has been used to clear sinus' from mucus and debris for centuries. Although this process wasn't widely known in the western world it is a widely practiced morning ritual in India and other eastern cultures. But lately nasal irrigation has been getting much publicity here in the western world too in the form of the Neti Pot. Doctors have recommended nasal irrigation for sinus problems, colds and allergic rhinitis… Continue

Hi There,

I really love botox for the daily head ache control. It has lessened the severity of the monthly migraines. The downside is your forehead is frozen which makes expressions somewhat challenging. Let me know if you decide to try it.

Janeen, thank you so much for you lovely comment. I find the most difficult part of my disease is having to deal with it in front of my children. To see their faces watch Mom in pain is painful in itself. You are right, we can relate.

Thanks for the great comment, Janeen. I use both medication and life-style approaches to managing my migraines. I lean very heavily on meditation and relaxation to calm my nervous system down - but I am happy to have my meds for when I need them! I talk a lot more about it in the ecourse - would love to have you join in.

Janeen, Thank you, and you're welcome! I love my work. After coming so far with my own Migraines and headaches, it's a dream job to help others. Three of our grandchildren have Migraines too, so that makes patient education and advocacy even more important to me. :-)
