About me
I was a WEGO Health Community Leader for the Autism forum and I was taking on Alzheimer's blog. Hopefully I will be back in a little while. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, moved to West Virginia in 1980 before the birth of my first child. I had a major brain surgery in 1997 which left me totally disabled. The tumor was an Acoustic Neuroma, which wasn't cancerous. I have come a long way and now am raising a soon to be 4 year old with autism. He is the light of my life! . I am married , have 2 other children, 27and 25. We have been dealing with autism since the 4 year old came into our lives. I am a WAH/SAHM that wouldn't have it any other way.

Struggling with depression

Back in March 1995, I was awaken by a knock on the door and a long time friend and neighbor screaming to open the door. He was a practical joker so I was a tad bit irritated and went to the door and opened it starting to tell him off when he fell to the floor. He had been shot by his wife's ex-husband with a deer rifle. The instant he hit the floor the entranceway was filled with blood. Me, not being the greatest with blood and gore call 911. I felt so helpless that there was nothing I could do.… Continue

Acoustic neuroma, what is it?

What is an Aucstic Neuroma? How did I get this? Why didn't I know I had it? These are a few questions I had back in April of 1997. However, without internet I was at the mercy of Doctors. An acoustic neuroma is usually benign, which is about the only good I could find in this condition. When those words were mentioned to me I was scared to death. Quite honestly, I was so scared when I went to surgery on June 10th that I literally was shaking s… Continue

My Autism the Musical thoughts

Autism: The Musical, an HBO special that was on March 25th I recorded, thank you DVR. I finally got the chance last night to watch it, I commend Elaine for taking the Miracle Project on and succeeding! It all started with her adopting a child, Neal, from Russia when he was a baby. Little did she know what she was in for later in life. He was diagnosed with autism, her family split up, people don't understand when you have an autistic child most time… Continue

Not a typical baby

Today, I went and visited my nephew and his girlfriend and newborn baby Kylie. Well let me start off as the proud Aunt she is perfect, I mean really, perfect coloring, hair, size, not fussy (like Ezra was), content little girl. Watching her today had me remembering Ezra at that age, constantly crying, at times uncontrollably and wondering what I could have done differently for him. In researching autism today I found one article that is so much like my story I wanted to share this with you.… Continue

Autism - Where to turn

When we first noticed something was wrong with Ezra it was his speech. I couldn't get the Doctors to do anything as their reasoning was, he is a boy and boys are lazy. So I took it upon myself to take him to therapy. While there the woman working with him recommended a Pediatric Neurologist and Birth 2 3. Birth 2 3 came first as they were really easy to get in contact with, sadly there are only two… Continue

Debbie,
I'm thrilled your husband is exploring the health benefits of Chiropractic. In it's truest form, Chiropractic is not a treatment for any condition rather it is merely one of many modalities people should choose to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The health benefits far outweigh the risks. If you want to look at the risks, you really have to look no further than malpractice rates. As you know, rates are determined based upon potential risk to patients. For my policy, in which I have 1 million, 3 million in coverage, I pay about 2K per year. MD's regularly pay tens of thousands with OB/GYNs paying in 6 figures. The incidence of stroke is reported to be 1 in every 1-3 million adjustments depending on the study. As a matter of fact, a recent study out of Canada suggests that the ratio of stroke within Chiropractic as opposed to the incidence within the general public are no different.
The benefits are tremendous. If your nervous system, the system that controls every function in your body, were working to it's maximum potential, wouldn't you think your body would function closer to it's potential? That is Chiropractic! Many patients get way more than they bargain for after seeing a DC. My website could really give you much more of what you are looking for. If you have specific questions, I am happy to answer them.
Thanks for welcoming me into your community!
Sandy
